Seven Layer Dressing

maxi skirt (dress): target // gingham top: target // flats: nine west //
military vest: old navy // necklaces: accessory auction

Get your layers on, girl! I take the privilege of layering very seriously.  I have to be flexible in needing to shed a layer in mid-day.  In college, one friend commented on my outfit, asking how many layers I was actually wearing... I've toned it down a bit since then though.  I feel much more "dressed" when there are more elements to my outfit.  Today it is just dress, shirt, vest!  I can't wait until the temps cooperate and I can break out my scarf collection.  In the meantime, we are having really great evenings with windows open and pleasant mornings of coffee on the patio.
Oh yeah, and this vest?
We are ready for another beautiful fall/winter season together.
What are your favorite go-to layering pieces?  Buying any new ones this season?
I would love to get a new vest like this or this to add to my collection.

I Solemnly Swear I Probably Won't Talk About Fall, Y'all.

floral maxi dress as shirt (previously here): ross // chambray top: jcpenney //
bubble necklace: groupdealz  // sandals: target // shades: cynthia rowley

I made a promise to myself, as I step back gingerly into blogging this season, that I would not use M of M as a platform to discuss weather.  Though I am holding my breath for cooler temps and layering and booties galore... I will not succumb to being one of those bloggers.
After this post.
I am going to layer and wear boots prematurely and enjoy the 98 degree temps like any other Southerner.  That way when fall finally shows his/her beautiful face, I will be all warmed up and ready to go.  Kapooya!
And in similar news, if I read another retweet of this tweet, I will LOSE it.
Pumpkin flavor is disgusting.  Get over it.

Pollen and great combos

[skirt: my mom | gingham top & sandals: target | necklace: eclectic ornaments | watch & shades: Michael Kors | tons of wrinkles: c/o nine hours teaching preschool]

So the cars may be bright yellow with pollen, but I try not to let it damper my mood.
However, I think the swollen eyes only add to my undeniable charm, right??
I feel like this outfit enhanced my mood with a trifecta combination of three great things.
Coral, gingham, & sea foam.
Take that you damn allergens.

it's beginning to look a lot like springtime...

 {dress: ross | sweater: i <3 ronson | boots: payless | belt: dots | necklace: crack in the walk}

It's amazing how picking up boots on super sale can completely turn your day around.
Even after two cups of delicious coffee, I was having a case of the Mondays... until my lunch break when I met these babies over half off.  Can't wait to use them to transition from winter (bye bye sweaters) to spring (hello, maxi dresses).  Which is apparently what season we are being thrown in to... or at least that's what my allergies tell me.

early morning horror movie

 {dress turned skirt: ross | top: dots | belt: urban o | boots: payless | scarf: LB | attitude: all my own}

Yes, that is the sun coming up behind me, and yes, that is scary fog trying to swallow me whole.
It looks like a pre-dawn horror movie up in here.
Crazy weather in these parts.  Oh, and I keep crazy old lady hours.
I desperately wanted to recreate this look today, but I couldn't find stripes or gingham anywhere clean.
I need to get this closet in order soon, before I have nothing to clean to wear but cocktail dresses or Halloween costumes.
The preschoolers just wouldn't know what to do with Tina Turner as their teacher.
Scarred for life.

MAXI-mum Monday

^just call me crazy eye^

{dress: rainbow | shirt: ross | shoes: payless | headband: anthropologie | belt: dots | bangles: dots, DY}

Hey chickens, big and small, how are you today?
it's MONDAY!
Hope everyone had a fun, safe weekend. I did a little girl's night out, a little movie night (Our Idiot Brother was FUNNY!!!), and I fell three feet straight on to my knees/shins trying to step OVER the pump at the gas station.  I'm a clutz, I know this, but today I am a clutz moving a little slower and sorer & wearing a maxi to cover the bruises.

M-m-m-m-moving on.... Mondays = shirt over maxi dress time.
Just noticed... my headband is the most expensive thing I am wearing today.
That's either sad or awesome.
I'll leave you with that thought.
XOXO

the best of intentions

{shirt: DKNY | skirt: homemade | necklace: gift | belt: DOTS | shoes: payless}

I really wanted to achieve a soft feminine look, with a touch of edge.  I loved the idea of pairing the black lacy shirt with the light peach skirt! But, once photographed, I hated it! Not a huge fan of this outfit! Maybe I just waited too late in the day and the overwhelming haze of humidity made everything blurry and blah.  I wore it to dinner and got a few random compliments, but all in all this isn't my fave.

In other news, I need a haircut.  Pinterest-ing some pics for inspiration as we speak.
Also, I went on a TJ Maxx shopping spree yesterday because I was oh-so-inspiring by this post by my favorite cute and little blogger, Kileen.

Can't wait to share my shopping haul with you chickens, but here's a little aperitif:

Until we meet again, have a good one, my little chickens.

art shows & hair bows

tank: OLD NAVY | dress: ROSS | belt: UO | headband: ANTHRO | purse: OLD NAVY | necklace: GIFT

HAPPY JUNE, YA'LL!
and boy, is it a hot one!
Speaking solely for myself, it is way to hot outside to even function.  Especially, when you add in the humidity, heat index, and air alerts.  It's cray cray.

I took these pics last night when we went out to a friend's art opening.  I wasn't even planning on shooting my outfit, if you can believe it.  I saw these amazing location and was like "TAKE MY PICTURE!"  It's such a fashion blogger thing to do, chickens.

Thankfully, my fellow art aficionados agreed & sister #2 even hopped in a couple herself, that little fashion maven.

On sister: skirt: UO | shirt: J. CREW | purse: thrifted

The art show was fabulous! The picture above was my favorite piece, so I had to snap a pic.
I love art openings and trolley nights, where the whole arts districts has shows.
SO MUCH FUN!  Especially when there is a nightcap, aka, a top shelf margarita.
I hope all of my chickens are staying cool and comfy, and enjoying their weekend.

Summer camp starts MONDAY! As does:
BEKAH'S BIRTHDAY WEEK!
My birthday is Thursday, so be prepared for tons of merrymaking and posts on ME!
If you can't wait for the posts, follow me on twitter :)

And until we meet again, stay merry!

Peachy Keen

Happy Tuesday, chickys.  I hope you guys enjoyed getting to know Dani yesterday during the blog swap. If you missed it, check it out here.
I have been in some sort of daze for the past few days.  I have had severe allergy issues, and have been foggy & uninspired.  I think it was last Thursday, my mom wanted to cheer me up and made me this maxi skirt.  IN THE BEST COLOR EVER! I call it 'peachy-orange-coral-ish', I felt like a mermaid princess.  And you know when four year olds tell you that your skirt is pretty, you're a winner.
{white sundress: target | maxi skirt: homemade | necklace: sister's | shoes: target | bangle: $1 fashion | belt:UO}

She's one talented lady, and I can't wait to exploit her skills some more.
So, for those super amazing chickens who voiced concern about my brief blog silence, I am okay, sillies, just super lazy and itchy. I got my meds and I'm good to go.
Hope you guys liked the threads today from last Thursday, I hope to get dressed today, too.
FINGERS CROSSED.
Have a massively awesome morning, noon, & night.

paper doll project 2.0

Good morrow, little chickens.
I am SO stinkin' excited to be participating in the second round of the Paper Doll Project.
You can check out my last partner-styled round here.
This round I was paired with the ever so classy and super stylish little lady, Kelsey.
Her blog is Snappy Casual, and she is making BIG ole splashes in the bloggie land, and for obviously reasons.  I love her fab style and killer smile.
Check her blog out... She is out of control awesome.

With the Paper Doll Project, the partners pick one item of clothing they would like styled by their respective partner.  I picked this white top, previously worn here.
And here is the WHOLE OUTFIT (aka magic) styled by Miss Kelsey herself.

I'm really glad she wanted to pair the tribal-dyed maxi dress with the white top.  I wanted to belt this top but never got around to doing it before today! I love love it.
All in all, I am thrilled with how it turned out! I may need to consult Kelsey more often :)

Be sure to check out how I styled Kelsey today, by checking out Snappy Casual.
RUN! Don't walk.
Have a wonderful hump day.

tell me about it, stud.

outfit inspiration: lovely Linley from Dwelling & Telling.  Isn't she the cutest?
I was a tad weary, because I have never really recreated a look.
All is fair in love and blogging, so here we go:
I saw Linley wearing this outfit above, and I knew it was the perfect way to
mix the maxi I just bought.  It's not quite warm enough to go bare shoulders (and I can't at work anyway)
I loved it.
Until I saw the pics and realized I probably should have buttoned it once more
and worn the knot a few inches lower.
Oh well, ya live and learn.
(and then you drink a margarita.)
Oh, and you're a smart cookie if you guessed that I wore this last week.
Monday was showering me with downpours, lightening and tornado warnings, so I did not get a pic yesterday, sadly.
I wore a (tye-dye) t-shirt and trudged through, barely making it ;)
On the other hand, I got my first ASOS order yesterday,
my BIRTHDAY dress.
Yes, it isn't until June.
Yes, I like attention.
Yes, I will probably wear it before then.
Yes, it has fringe.
I think I covered all of the bases.
maxi: Ross. floral button-up: Target. necklace: gifted.
shoes: not pictured, i am such a goober, but I am wearing these.

How awesome are these studded shoulders on the shirt?
Florals and studs? Fabulous love child.
Have the best Tuesday ever and remember:
