leather jackets + christmas quizzes

{boots: nine west | tights, leopard top: TJ maxx | dress: thrifted | leather jacket: ross | belt: dots}
Check out WIW: Leather Jackets, hosted by the lovely Dani (The Daily Dani)

Christmas Quiz
(stolen from Faye)
If you post your own Q+A's be sure to let me know so I can check out your holiday answers.

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? I don't care much at all for egg nog.  Not the name, not the color, not the consistency.  I will take the hot chocolate, with or without a splash of peppermint schnapps.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree? Santa did not wrap often when I was younger, but now that my attention span has grown (slightly) he wraps my presents just to make the magic last longer.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? We have never had lights on our house, but it's a strictly white lights on the tree household.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Never say never.

5. When do you put your decorations up? We are notoriously lazy.  We have done it as early as December 1st and as late as Christmas Eve.  And I would be lying if I said that tree hasn't seen it's share of Valentine's Days.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Chess squares (dessert) or Cream cheese & pepper jelly (appetizer) or my mom's dressing (side dish) or my dad's country ham (for Christmas breakfast). YEAH I WENT THERE!

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child? It really is a culmination of a my childhood.  As soon as we got out of school for Christmas break, my three siblings and I wold move all of our beds in to one room and sleep in the same room ALL of the break.  Many great memories of laughs, holiday movies, and listening for Santa's boots on the floor downstairs.

{ And yes, we still all spend Christmas Eve in the same room :) }

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Second grade, at the lunch table, from some kid named Timothy.  Jerk.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We begged and begged every year.  We have a strict Christmas day tradition.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? My mom is an interior decorator so we always got to give our input.... BUT it always ended up very professional in the end :) We have traded in the sentimental ornaments for a more traditional tree, from this post.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Love it.

12. Can you ice skate? I've never actually tried, but considering I can't roller skate/blade or walk and chew gum at the same time, I'll just spare myself the ER visit.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? They were all my favorites.  But, I remember getting one of those 5 disc changing stereos back in the late 90s, and boy did I love that thing. Oh, and my TalkGirl.

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? Tradition and surprises.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? I cheated earlier and told you-- Chess squares, definitely.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Refer to #7

17. What tops your tree? Whoever had the patience to stick around that long with Mom while she is all bossy around that tree :)

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving? Ever since I started college, I really became a big giver.  I love planning gifts for the person, and not just buying them a picture frame or some gloves.
Although, gloves are nice.

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum? Yum, peppermint or candy flavored, I like them all.

20. Favorite Christmas movie? ELF! Runner ups: Love Actually and Christmas Vacation.

21. Saddest Christmas song? Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland. (watch that clip!) Reason: I was in the musical Meet Me In St. Louis, and the song was written for her for the movie.  The part of the song in the play is more bittersweet than people realize.  That being said, it is my favorite but it has to be JUDY!

22. What is your favorite Christmas song? Second place to the song I just mentioned and because I have no shame, I recorded this two years ago with some friends when I was procrastinating for exams.  Merry Christmas Baby by Hanson is definitely a favorite with me and my baby sister, (hey girl).
I blame the red bull.
You're welcome.

Wear*It Wednesday: Tunics

I am so thrilled to be hosting Wear*It Wednesday this week!
I have enjoyed participating in the past, but hosting is just as delightful.
Here is my preppy fun tunic choice and how I styled it:

{tunic: old navy | sweater, leggings: target | shoes: payless | necklace: crack in the walk}

Thanks to all of the girls below for sending me their tunic pictures!

First up is my new blog friend, Kate from Suburban Sweetheart! She doesn't do outfit posts too often, but if this picture is any indication SHE SHOULD KEEP 'EM COMING! She has great style and I am totally digging the mustard yellow tunic.

Gracey from Fashion For Giants is a girl after my own heart.  We are both six feet tall and share many of the same difficulties of finding clothes for tall women! I know this is why I love tunics and I know Gracey agrees with me.

I always look forward to Laura's (from The Blog of Worldly Delights) outfit posts because she has such a creative style and it never is boring over there.  I love her pink tunic, and the blazer takes it up a notch and makes it a professional look! (and a flower pin never hurt anyone!!!)

Melody at Melody-Mae sent two tunic looks! And I was amazed to see that we were almost twins!!!
Of course her tunic is from F21, and mine is Old Navy, but hey... we still match!
Her mustard tunic and animal print look are perfection!!!

Jess from Animated Cardigan shows in this post, that tunics can stretch the boundaries of seasons- the same tunic can be paired with capris, leggings, or jeans! Gotta love a look like that!

Mandy, from Juggling Chic, not only has an accessory collection that I want to steal- she also has the most perfect colored tunic IN THE WORLD.

My BBFF Dani (The Daily Dani) rocks tunics like no other.  We couldn't pick a favorite sooooo: I picked two.  Get it, girl.

Shopfreak, prides herself on finding the cutest clothes for the best deals around.  I can appreciate that!
Her striped tunic is amazing! And she got it for $3... I need her to take me shopping!

My name twin, Rebekah, of From the Mixed Up Files, is a WIW veteran and doesn't miss a beat with her tunic! GORGEOUS! Look for her post later today!
Here's the sneaky peek:

Last, but certainly not least: Rachel (Distinct.Innovation.Style) the genius behind Wear It Wednesday in all of her red-headed glory thrifted this genius tunic for $2.99 at the Goodwill and we share a tunic obsession.  YAY!

Hosting this week was so much fun, thanks for everyone who shared tunic looks with me!
See y'all soon!

Reminder: Wear It Wednesday Tunics

Hi chickens, Happy Sunday!
Just wanted to shoot you a quick reminder that I am hosting Wear It Wednesday this week!
That means if you want to join up and party with us, email me your outfit pics of your favorite tunics!
I love the versatility and comfort of the tunic length, so I chose them! (the two pictures are two of my favorite past outfits with tunics!)
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOURS! :)
It's my favorite part of the week!

bright mornings + tights, tights, tights

{nine west boots, thrifted dress, we love colors tights, torrid belt, thrifted sweater,  a little bit of this necklace}

I am obsessed with these tights, and I hope to order 1400 more pairs so that winter dressing can be as much fun as it was today.  I had no idea what to wear, but throwing these tights on and building an outfit from them was the easiest way to do it!  I know I want rust and a shade of blue, but any other suggestions!?!  I took these pics before work! YAY YAY YAY! BRIGHT MORNINGS! This is so important to me because it's the most guaranteed time for me to get my pics done before I spend the day with 23 4 year olds and begin to look a hot mess! Also, I like the wooded area as my backdrop, like I am an overdressed woods(wo)men.
Ha! I hope you guys are having a great hump day!
This week I am featuring these tights (in a different outfit) for Wear it Wednesday hosted by Dresses For Dinner! Check out all of the tights for your own tights inspiration!
 XOXO

rainy daze + tribal wear

{skirt: target | top: dots | belt: UO | boots: nine west | necklace: broke before pictures, sadface}

HAPPY HUMP DAY!
It rainy, it's cold.  Besides the frizzy hair, I am content :)

Shopping Ban update:
-I have a folder on my desktop labeled "What To Buy In November."
-I am still spending money on going out to eat... I think next month should be no dining out month.
-Yesterday, I went thrifting.  On accident.  I never mentioned it in my previous post on my shopping ban, but I think thrifting can be forgiven.  I didn't go crazy with my purchases, just two items necessary for winter!

pinball machines+bad hair days

hello wind blown balloon shirt beloooooow:
{skinnies: gap | chambray tunic: LB | flats: payless | clutch: borrowed | necklace: gift | jewelry: hex nut: homemade, watch: dads, rhinestone: dots, beaded bracelet: turkoyz}

Can you believe it is Wednesday AGAIN?! I know, I know... it happens every week.
It is my favorite day to get dressed because of Wear It Wednesday at Rachel's blog!
This week is chambray, and I am a definite fan.

My sister and some friends and I took some photos at a local pizza place.
Then played some mahjah pinball.  And this bad hair day is a whole 'nother story.

in my white tee

{tee: borrowed | maxi skirt: homemade by my mom | necklace: Mama Chickie | shoes: payless}

First things first... I am wearing a plain white tee, along with some other lovelies, at Distinct.Style.Innovation. for Wear It Wednesday.
Love the way it looks, and it was definitely comfy, but I had to hunt this sucker down.
Yep, I did not own a plain white tee.  You think I would considering my affection for boyfriend tees.
I had so much fun dressing this one up!
Moving on... I am happy to mention that following my product review, eShakti has made a generous offer for all of my friends, readers, and chickens! Use the promo code BEKAH0811 and receive $20 off your order.  It's a fabulous deal considering how moderately priced they are to begin with, you are WINNING! Hop on over to eShakti.com and buy yourself something pretty!
which brings me to my next point:
Finally... THE OCTOBER SHOPPING BAN:
dun dun dunnnnnn
I thought it would be a lot harder that it has been.  But then again, it is only October FIFTH.  Instead of pining for a therapy sesh at TJ MAXX, I am making a game out of it.  I am going to see how long I can keep my money in my bank account.  If I can keep a double-digit balance until the 15th, then I have already set a life-time record. I have turned it from a shopping ban, to more of a frivolous spending ban.
I thought I would be more likely to stick to it if I set some concrete ground rules:
1. No clothing/shoes/accessory shopping!
(with the exception of very few Halloween costume tweaks)
2. No beauty products or services!
Meaning: I don't need ANOTHER eyeliner, and I can paint my own nails.
(I think I can, I think I can)
3. No coffee/tea that costs more than $2
I can put the Salted Caramel Mochas on hold and just drink it black.
Right?
4. DISTRACTION, DISTRACTION, DISTRACTION!
 Lastly, when I need want to shop, I will simply read a book, watch a TV show, or go walking.

There you have it folks, a shopping somewhat-of-an-addict's plan to take a break for the month of October and (hopefully) reap some benefits.

I know that my girl Jessica is also doing a shopping ban this month, any other ladies?
Join us and keep me sane! :)
