Product Love: Big Sexy Hair Texturizing Hairspray

Big Sexy Hair FLIP IT OVER is my new best friend.  For those of you who do not know, I have naturally curly hair that I blow dry straight, followed by a flat iron or a barrel for waves.  On my wavy days, I have been searching for a miracle and at Ulta... I found it.

After I did a light wave today, I flipped my head over and sprayed and scrunched and by 4 PM, I still look fresh... even after battling pre-schoolers all day.

WINNER WINNER!

(P.S. I did a lot of soul searching with the wonderful employees of my local Ulta, and we decided on this one.  Had I not been completely satisfied, they have a 60 day return policy.  MONEY BACK- if there is still 50% left in the bottle!  You can't go wrong! Run out and try products to your heart's contents, my little chickens.  Report back.)

current obsession: {hair products}

So it's been a hot minute since I reviewed some products! I have been buying cosmetics and drugstore products like they are going out of style, but today I am going to strictly stick to my new favorite hair products.

I have naturally curly hair that you will 99.9% never see in it's full curly glory, unless we are swimming or camping, and let's be honest-- I don't do camping.
So that being said, I use many a heat tool and the stress and damage can leave your hair feeling frizzy, broken, and dry as straw.  I was doing my weekly stroll down the aisles of Walgreens, my own little method of therapy, when I spotted this new product by my dear, old friend John Frieda.  What a gem, that guy.
1. John Frieda
FULL REPAIR
shampoo and conditioner
Revives overworked hair without sacrificing full body.  I really like the smell of this shampoo/conditioner, but then again I don't normally splurge on salon brands known for their smells! I felt like the quality of both products was well worth the $6.99 sticker, BOGO too!

Just with the shampoo and conditioner, I noticed my hair truly felt softer.
But I think the golden ticket really came with this little bottle:
2. John Frieda
FULL REPAIR
sheer mist

The sheer mist is just added to the ends of your hair, and is advertised to make the brittle and damaged ends of overworked hair softer and more manageable. It makes blow drying a BREEZE, and I can't stress how much softer it made the ends of my hair.  I literally made everyone feel it.  Everyone!
**If you prefer creams to sprays, this comes in a cream as well!

Final Say: I think this is the perfect new product for thick, unruly hair or hair that gets hair dryer/flat iron everyday.  Maybe not for the thin and fine haired gals out there.  Have you tried it? Been interested in it? Let me know.  Comment it out, merrymakers.

lots of love + DIY

here are a couple things i am head over heels for right now:

my new (you guessed it) HEADBAND.
it sparkles- it's stretchy- its from target.
j'adore.

oh it's the simple things in life.
pretty little liars, the tv show.
it has become my secret (obvi, not anymore) guilty tv obsession.

my new Essie finger nail polish: Wicked.
I love rockin darker nail colors and different shades of red and purple. This shade is like a perfect mix of all those.

via

My first spring/summer shoe purchase.
These studded gladiator flip flops were screaming my name at Target today.
They are so versatile + comfy.
They come in a lot of colors and I am definitely gonna splurge another $12.99 for the turquoise pair.

What are you LOVING these days, my little chickens?

Here's what I did over the weekend:
(besides eat and drink beer)

DIY: Spray Paint
My new additions to my room:
They were a gift from a family friend.
(there's a matching bookshelf, also)
I loved them + they are super useful.
BUT I was so not crazy about the formica fake wood.
woof.

Since my wall are like a medium gray, I wanted another deep color than could easily translate as I change and rearrange.  In my bedroom, I like darker neutrals with pops of color that I can change often, because I get bored easily.
(This is my first love affair with spray paint*, we didn't get along the whole day, but we may have a second date- it just depends)
FIRST, I primed everything.
THEN I PAINTED
yeah, i'm not that technical.
I wanted the nightstand to be different so I chose a purple to match my tapestry.
Oh and Ozzy really wanted to be a part of this DIY reveal.
What a ham.
For the dresser and bookshelf- I went with Valspar's Indigo Streamer.
It didn't photograph well and the lighting is HORRIBLE (its actually darker than this),
but TRUST ME it looks FAB against the gray walls.
I will tackle the bookshelf another weekend.  I think I got carpal tunnel syndrome
from holding the spray button for so long.
*I don't claim to have any knowledge of painting, and I am certainly not an expert. I live and learn from doing.  It was fun and if you want to spice things up in your area, it was pretty easy :)
XOXO

freaky friday

FBFF:

Today's topic:
BEAUTY PRODUCTS
We use 'em, we love 'em, and here is a little bit about mine:
drum roll, puh-lease...
I love makeup.  I always have.
(it's not a secret)
(my secret santa at work got me a sephora gift card)
I started wearing makeup in the fifth grade.
However, my mother will be proud that I can finally admit that: I didn't always apply correctly or choose the right shades.  But, just like my style, that is ever evolving, my makeup drawer is always in full rotation.
Below are some of my current faves and this week's FBFF questions.

1. What's your favorite drug store beauty product and what is your favorite higher-end beauty product?
My favorite drug store product fluctuates, depending on my budget.  I used to live and breathe Covergirl products.  I love Physician's Formula Bronzer and I use Rimmel Glam eyes mascara- love it.

When it comes to higher end products- I love my NARS blushes and all over stick.  I use shades Orgasm (I know... right?) and Super Orgasm (which has shimmer- for an evening out)

2. If there one product that is your go-to, that you cannot live without?
THAT'S EASY PEASY!
When it comes to makeup- I made a significant investment around Christmas time and bought this Sephora Blockbuster Palette.  It has everything I could ever need and more!
(and it closes up in to a cute box that looks like the Sephora bag)
Seriously- I died when I opened it.

3. What is the best hair product you've ever used?
My favorite hair product when I had a short, inverted bob was the Big Sexy Hair line.
NOW- It is Moroccan Oil.  It's Fabulous!

4. Fess up- What's the worst beauty look you've tried to rock and look back at now with a little shame or apprehension that you actually did that?
In middle school, everyone wore WHITE eyeliner.  Everyday.  And I jumped right on that bandwagon.
White eyeliner coupled with blue mascara-- instant disaster.
Thanks to everyone who loved me through that stage.
and the glitter phase- but there isn't enough time for that debacle.

5. When it comes to beauty products, we all use the same basic products.  What do you use that helps show off your personal flare and personality?
I think I have always been drawn to colored eyeshadows.  I think they can really express your style, when done in a subtle way, or more dramatic.  I like to highlight my eyes and make them pop! And I will never be one to shy away from a bright, red lip :)

So clue me in- what are your favorite products?  And what is your item you just cannot live without?

Sadly, the FBFF awards that I wrote about last week were cancelled.  You can read about it here.
I'm bummed- but I am glad I got to showcase some of my favorites for y'all to check out.
If you haven't yet, click here, and read up on some of my fellow bloggers.

Have you ever had weeks where you've gotten so little done, yet it takes SO much out of you?
Well- that is my week in a nutshell.
I'm so exhausted.
But looking forward to some time to fully maximize my weekend.
(i.e. enjoy my adult beverages and relax on our new patio furniture)
Cheers,
